Our Programs
Schools Campaign
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, PiE dollars have become
crucial at PAUSD schools. At the typical elementary school, PiE now provides more
than two-thirds of the flexible dollars used by principals for school programs. At
the secondary schools, PiE dollars represent more than 60% of principals’ flexible
funds. PiE dollars make the difference for every child in PAUSD, and every dollar we
receive in donations helps keep our schools outstanding.
At our elementary schools, PiE funds
make sure that those extra pairs of hands (general classroom aides or instructional
assistants) are in the classroom regularly to support individual and small group
learning. Supplemental science instruction provided by PiE helps elementary students
discover, hands-on, how things work. And PiE funds the Spectra Art program for the
entire district, nurturing our budding artists and building confidence in kids
across PAUSD.
At the middle school level, PiE funds
make more counselors available to more kids, allowing counselors to stay with their
student cohorts through all three grades, forming deeper and more meaningful
relationships. PiE funding has allowed Jordan to add electives like Chorus and
creative writing, JLS to add public speaking, and Terman to offer drama. Mentors at
all three schools help teachers leverage technology to maximize teaching time, and
next year will mentor teachers in writing and reading.
At our high schools, PiE pays for
additional counselors at both schools, making counseling more accessible to more
students. PiE also pays for staffing to help improve College and Career Centers,
including counseling staff and essay workshops at Paly. PiE also helps staff
programs that ensure college readiness for all students. PiE dollars fund the
popular engineering curriculum at Gunn, and for an aide for Paly’s biotechnology
elective and other exciting science and technology courses.
Our schools campaign will run through January 27, 2012 and your
support is crucial. Please see below for specifics about how PiE dollars are used at
every school in Palo Alto, and then consider the most significant gift your family
can afford to make. Every day, PiE dollars help preserve an outstanding public
education in Palo Alto. Right now, we’re raising funds for the next school year
(2012-13), and given state and federal budget issues we’re likely to need your help
more than ever before. Please give today to preserve people and programs that make
our schools outstanding. Thank you!
