PiE Supports Barron Park Elementary School

During the 2011-2012 school year, generous donations from parents and community members have allowed PiE to provide $110,882 for use at Barron Park Elementary. This year PIE funds:

- Pay for about two thirds of the general classroom aide time, helping provide seven hours of vital classroom aide time weekly. Aides are an important part of the classroom experience at Barron Park because they let teachers work with small groups or individuals, helping to differentiate instruction that benefits all our children. - Fund all of Spectra Art. This means that all students will benefit from regular art instruction

- Pay for a variety of performing arts programs that bring our social studies curriculum to life, promoting student engagement and helping our learners find valuable meaning in the content and skills they acquire through culturally rich activities tied to social studies in every grade, including:
   - Kinders - Ballet Folkorico with Carlos Moreno
   - First graders – Congolese singing, drumming and dancing with Young Audiences
   - Second graders - Puppetry that culminates in American such as Martin Luther King, Jr., Helen Keller, Amelia Earhart, Abraham Lincoln with Arlinda Smith
   - Third graders – integrating theater and improvisation, in exploring folklore traditions of the Ohlone Indians
   - Fourth graders – California Gold Rush simulation in Coloma
   - Fifth graders - “Walk through the American Revolution" historical simulation

“At Barron Park School, PiE funding helps us engage, support, and challenge every child. This support is an integral part of our core instructional program and helps teachers to differentiate learning activities individually and in small groups for students at every level. The incorporation of the visual and performing arts enrich and deepen student learning while engaging all children in using different areas of their brains and finding personal connection to historical events and diverse cultural traditions.”

– Barron Park Principal Magdalena Fittoria
